With fluctuating temperatures, germs are at their worst! Here at ELMNT FM, over half our staff have caught the bug over the last few months. And for most of us, winter is the season of sickness. It got us thinking; how can we prevent these supposedly inevitable illnesses from happening? Although the below list may seem a bit obvious at times, it is tried and true.
- Hydrate
A lot us struggle to stay on top of our daily hydration. You should be drinking eight cups of water per day. Not only will this keep you hydrated, but it will help to flush out toxins which could lead to sickness.
- Eat Well
We’ve all heard it before, but eating well will make a big difference. If it’s fresh and local, you’re off to a great start. Make sure you are hitting all of the food groups for a balanced meal full of nutrients. Try to stay away from goods with lots of preservatives and salt.
- Wash Your Hands
Your hands are the biggest gateway for external germs to wreak havoc on your health. Between regular washing and hand sanitizing, prevent any pesky germs from getting you sick.
- Exercise
Sweat out those toxins! By spending a minimum of 30 minutes a day on exercise, you will build a good regimen in the fight against, well getting sick. Some activities could include spin class, yoga, a nice winter walk or run or a special interest class such as dance.
- Get Outside
Germs thrive in stuffy spaces, such as the office or your home. We’d recommend going for a brisk stroll or cracking a window, cause a little bit of fresh air can go a long way!
- Sleep
It may seem a little obvious to recommend that you get your full eight hours of rest, but with our screen-filled world, it’s easy to stay up late watching Netflix, playing video games or scrolling through your Instagram. Although it may seem like a stretch, it’s advised to be without your phone for the last hour before falling into a slumber. Why not pick up a book, write in a journal or end off your day with some stretches before bed?
There are so many preventative measures to take in at the height of sick season and we couldn’t cover them all. What would you add to our list? Do you have a preventative remedy? Comment below.
