What’s Happening in Toronto in May 2019

There’s no shortage of things to get up to this month! We’ve put together some of the events we’re looking forward to in Toronto. What’s on your list?

You won’t want to miss this Tony Award Winning rock musical that flips what one would usually expect out of a musical on it’s head and instead handles a mother coping with worsening mental illness. It’s happening from April 26th to May 19th.

Love art, design and digital media? OCAD’s annual Grad Expo will showcase over 800 young artists to celebrate the work of OCAD’s 2019 graduates! Check it out from May 1st-5th.

Michelle Obama is on her book tour and she has a great deal to discuss. Check it out on May 4th!

Canadian Music Week offers live performances for everyone, no matter your genre of choice.

In one week, experience live music from over 800 bands across the city. Get excited to attend May 6th-12th.

Who doesn’t love a sidewalk sale featuring live entertainment and family friendly things to do? Check out Spring Into Parkdale on May 11th.

Enjoy this proper telling of the story of “Shanawdithit” told by soloists, a chorus, an orchestra and featuring gorgeous works by five Indigenous visual artists. It’s on from May 16th-25th.

This one-week youth-led performing arts festival is a culmination of one whole year of performing arts training and creating brought forth to the public. Check it out between May 20th-26th.

Celebrate in the hard work and dedication of 120 Indigenous youth from across the country as they gather together to share their dance performances with you at Outside Looking In. You can see the show on May 23.

This annual film festival is a great showcase of LGBT talent that started back in 1991 when a small group of folks gathered together to enjoy films created and about the LGBT community and it has since blossomed into a huge celebration. It kicks off May 23rd-June 2nd.

Come together to celebrate at Anime North!

Celebrate everything Japanese at this annual gathering of lovers of anime, manga, music, games and more at Anime North. It’s on from May 24th-26th.

Pedestrian Sundays start again at Kensington Market this spring. You won’t want to miss the arts, culture, cute market finds and great food on offer. It begins May 26th.
