As much of the world is on lockdown, I thought we could at least travel the world and take a peek at how law enforcers in other countries are dealing with those who aren’t cooperating.
First, let’s start in South Africa
There’s a nationwide ban on all public gatherings in the country and there’s a couple who found this out the hard way when they decided to go ahead with their wedding. Police swooped in and arrested the bride, the groom, all fifty guests… and the pastor. They are due in court on Monday.
Next, a mayor in the small town of Alton, Illinois
He told his citizens that as pressure to stay home, he was giving his police full authority to issue citations and arrests to anyone and everyone who violates stay-at-home orders—and he really meant anyone and everyone.
Forty-eight hours later, his police force gathered people not complying at a local tavern and among those rounded up: the mayor’s wife! He instructed the police to treat her just like every other citizen which they did. He went onto say, “My wife is an adult capable of making her own decisions and in this instance she exhibited a stunning lack of judgement. I am embarrassed … and apologize to the citizens of Alton for any embarrassment this incident may cause our city.”
Lastly, in Argentina, police arrested a man wearing a Barney costume on a motorbike.
They stopped him and asked the obvious question, “What are you doing?” He explained that he’s a children’s entertainer and was on his way to a birthday party. The police felt that was a little suspicious given the stay-at-home orders, so they pressed the man in the Barney suit further.
Finally he confessed he was on his way to his girlfriend’s house and put on the costume as an alibi. The alibi not only didn’t work but it also doesn’t make any sense! He was going to visit one person but thought it was a better story to say he was going to visit a group of kids?
So don’t be like the man in the Barney suit, the first lady of Alton, or the South African newlyweds who spent their first night together behind bars. Just stay home!
