With #BlackLivesMatter taking social media, society and media by storm, I am here to say as an Indigenous person, that I am in full support of the movement.
There comes a time when enough is enough, whether it be for my people or other people of colour. I am grateful we are seeing people staying strong and fighting for what is right. During this time, if you are wondering what you can do to support – here are some options:
13TH on Netflix
Read educational materials:
Algorithms of Oppression by Safiya Noble
Blood In My Eyes by George L. Jackson
Justice for Regis
Justice for George
National Action Against Police Brutality
Donate to foundations or organizations (if you can):
Support Black Owned Businesses (restaurants with take-out/delivery):
Rasta Pasta in Kensington (closed Mondays)
Choptime Catering in Mississauga (delivery to Mississauga, Brampton and Etobicoke only)
Chris Jerk in Scarborough (Take out ONLY – closed Sundays)
All this information is information that I have collected for my own personal use. Please do your own research and see what foundations, books, films, businesses and petitions you want to support. Please just do not stay silent and use your voice to educate and keep those who may be ignorant, informed.
