The weather here in Toronto has been hot hot hot, and if you listen to my show you know I love patio season. The warm weather gives me all the more excuse to go out while following social distancing precautions. Last Saturday, I had the chance to visit El Trompo in Kensington Market for some Mexican cuisine.
The menu is a good size with everything from appetizers (nachos, pico de gallo, guacamole etc), tacos, fajitas, quesadillas, desserts and drinks (both non-alcoholic and alcoholic). This was an outing with my father and I, and as we were passing by we noticed their patio had around five outdoor patio tables. There was no wait which was nice. The server spoke mainly Spanish, but could understand exactly what we wanted and was very kind and funny. Our order of nachos, al pastor tacos and a chicken and cheese quesadilla followed by a strawberry margarita, came out quickly. The al pastor tacos (5 tacos for $10.50) were absolutely my favourite with pork meat marinated in a traditional sauce that is served on corn tortillas, garnish with pineapple, cilantro, lime and onion.
By the end of the dinner, the bill came up to approximately $41 making it not too pricey of a lunch. We felt completely satisfied and full by the end of it. Overall, if you are looking for good Mexican food without breaking the bank, check this local joint out.
