“The Spark” has captured top honours for Winnipeg-based singer-songwriter William Prince, as the winner of the 2020 SOCAN Songwriting Prize.
“The Spark” is a single on Prince’s highly acclaimed sophomore album, Reliever, the followup to his Juno-award winning debut album Earthly Days.
Prince will receive the $5,000 first prize, a Yamaha Keyboard, and a $500 gift card from Long & McQuade.
“The Spark” was shortlisted for the prize alongside other nominated songs by Haviah Mighty, Corridor, Clairmont The Second, iskwé, FouKi and LOONY. In a first for SOCAN, each of the remaining nine nominated songwriters were awarded $500.
The SOCAN Songwriting Prize was chosen by fan votes from across Canada.
