Premier Ford announced Tuesday, January 12th that the province would go into a State of Emergency effective immediately to limit the spread of COVID-19. The State of Emergency is set to take place for a minimum of 28 days. This includes more restrictions, including a stay at home order which will be effective Thursday, January 14th at 12:01AM. Below we have highlighted the governmental restrictions pertaining to Toronto residents:
- Residents must stay home except for essential travel
- Outdoor public/social gatherings are limited to 5 people, down from 10 people
- Opening hours are limited between 7:00AM-8:00PM for non-essential businesses
- These limited hours do not apply to grocery stores, convenience stores, gas stations, pharmacies and restaurants offering takeout options
- If employees can work from home, they must work from home
- Schools in Toronto will not return to in-person instruction until February 10, 2021
- Masks are required in all indoor businesses and encouraged in outdoor spaces where physical distancing is harder to achieve
