Indigenous hip hop artists are being recognized at a new award show this year. Get ready for The International Indigenous Hip Hop Awards Show, which brings together talent from across Turtle Island to honour great music made through nominations, awards and performances from the best in the business.
You can have your say in who takes home the awards by voting daily. Snotty Nose Rez Kids are up for four awards, including Hip Hop Album of the Year and Music Video of the Year. Sebastian Gaskin, PJ Vegas and Shawnee are up for R&B Single of the Year. Meanwhile, R&B Album of the Year’s nominations includes iskwē‘s, Acakosik, Riit’s, Ataatage and PJ Vegas’, On My Way. Also being recognized at the show are A Tribe Called Red, Hyper-T, Hellnback, Baker Boy, DJ Shub, T-Rhyme and ELMNT FM’s very own Cody Coyote, for Best Male Hip Hop Artist.
Don’t miss Hyper-T and Drezus as they take to the virtual stage, as well as The Ra11n, The NorthStars, Jayohcee, Violent Ground and more. The show will be judged by Rex Smallboy, MissChristie Lee, Chino XL, Blahzay Blahzay, Jon C and Masta Ace.
The Indigenous Hip Hop Awards will be hosted by Mike Bone and take place on May 22 and 23, 2021. Whether you are an artist or a fan, there’s something for everyone with a love of Indigenous hip hop. The two days will be part music conference and part awards show. This year’s host city is Winnipeg, Manitoba, the original territory of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Dene, Dakota, Oji-Cree, Treaty 1 Territory and the homeland of the Metis Nation.
