Stay Home Club with Jill Kennedy: June 7-13

Now that that heat wave is behind us and cooler temperatures are here, what have you got planned for the weekend? Patio-going, non-essential retail shopping and larger outdoor gatherings are possible again. But, maybe you’re like me and just want to stay home and wait it out till the hype wears off. If that’s the case, I’ve got some ideas for you!

[Listening]

Need some new music for the weekend? Check out Nimkish’s new track, YSB featuring ASCXNSION. I had a chance to speak with Nimkish about the track and her upcoming EP, Damage Control. Check out our chat here

[Watching]

Darren Star’s latest show, Younger ended after seven seasons. It follows a newly divorced woman in her forties, Liza, as she tries to become more relevant in the publishing industry by pretending to be younger than she is. It’s a brilliantly written show – it’s got some of the best dialogue I’ve ever read. You can catch it on Prime.

[Reading]

This week I’ve been reading A Knock on the Door from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. This book shares a detailed history of the residential school system in Canada along with anecdotes from interviews with survivors. It is really hard to read, but as someone who has not experienced anything close to this, I want to work to be a better ally and try to put myself in the shoes of former residential school students.

[Spending Time]

If you haven’t, I highly encourage you to check out the Indigenous Music Summit. There are musical performances, panels and very excitingly, documentaries about artists that they directed themselves! Beatrice Deer, Logan Staats and G.R. Gritt are among the artists you can catch in the Giiwewizh (which means “to carry home”) documentary series. Check out how to get involved here.

Let me know what you’re planning for the weekend!
