Kanyen’kehá:ka athlete Jillian Weir heading to Olympic Games Tokyo 2020

Kanyen’kehá:ka athlete, Jillian Weir will make her Olympic debut as part of Team Canada at the 2020 games in Tokyo this summer. She will compete in the women’s hammer throw event, which is part of the track and field series. Jillian’s mother’s side of the family is from Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. Her father, Robert Weir is a three-time Olympian in the men’s hammer throw and discus throw. Jillian has competed in the Pan American Games, the Commonwealth Games and the World Athletics Championships

Jillian hopes to be a model to Indigenous youth to inspire them to do anything they put their minds to, even if it is hard to picture or access it.
