International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples
The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples occurs every year on August 9th since The United Nations (UN) Working Group on Indigenous Populations (WGIP) first met on August 9, 1982.
The day of recognition in order to promote the rights, culture, land of Indigenous people urge non-Indigenous people all around the world to educate themselves of the history, culture and future of Indigenous communities.
This year’s theme is “Celebrating Generations: Honouring our ancestors, Elders, youth and our future generations through culture, language and traditions”.
