On Saturday, July 15 Toronto’s very own Stacked Market made waves, by hosting a Black and Indigenous Backyard Market.
The Backyard Market hosted over 15 vendors, ranging from natural skincare to traditional beaded jewelry and textiles, chocolates and baked goods, books, clothing and so much more.
The event ran from 12-10 pm with events taking place, such as a live art showcase, Soca dance workshop, Indigenous Electronica sets, and movie screening, based around black and indigenous culture.
Stacked Market has helped hundreds of small businesses flourish, such as Anishinaabe member of Aamjiwnaang First Nations Chelsee-Marie Pettit founder of Aaniin Retail Inc.
Aaniin started out as a single streetwear brand in June 2021 and since has grown into a retail space that houses 40 other indigenous brands within with stacked market. Aaniia follows the values of Community, Collaboration—connection, and helps increase indigenous representation in Toronto.
